Hunmanby Hall Golf and Leisure

A 5 minute walk from Mena Cottage is the grounds of Hunmanby Hall Golf and Leisure where you can access golf, fitness classes , gym fitness and play tennis.

The 1 mile picturesque parkland trial with views of Bempton Cliffs is an ideal dog walking venue charged at £1 per adult and 50p per child.

There is wildlife all around with a variety of flora and forna in the form of bluebells, wild orchids, snow drops and Reed beds on site. Sighting of over 30 bird species have been recorded here including Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, wood peckers and Heron.

Local pubs

Less than a 2 minutes walking distance from Mena cottage are several, friendly and inviting pubs .

The Horse Shoe Inn serves traditional ales, pub food and Sunday lunches.

Also in the village is The White Swann Pub , which is reportedly haunted which also serves traditional pub food and guest ales.

The Piebald Inn, a 15 minute walk away from Mena Cottage specializes in a variety of award winning homemade pies as well as serving a traditional pub menu.

For a special occasion and on the door step of Mena Cottage, Wrangham house hotel provides morning coffee, afternoon teas and evening meals.

Local Amenities

The local shops consist of a small CoOp supermaket, Boots Chemist, Opticians, Post Office, DIY store, butchers, fruit and veg shop, deli, newsagents, fish and chip shop, Chinese take away and Pizza shop. All of which are in a 5 minute walking distance.


The local churches are within a stones thrown away from the cottage and the bells can be heard on a Sunday morning. There are 2 local play parks within the village and a skate park behind the community centre.


For attractions

Further a field less than 6 miles away is Playdale farm which caters for the whole family with farm animals and indoor and outdoor play equipment.

The local seaside resort of Filey is a 40 minute walk across the local farm track and fields or a 10 minute drive by car.

Hunmanby is also served with a local bus and train service travelling regularly to Filey, Scarborough, Bridlington and Hull.

Other local attractions include Sewerby Hall and gardens on the outskirts of Bridlington. This Grade I listed Country house is set in 50 acres of landscaped gardens with a dramatic cliff top position and views of Flam Borough Head, Bridlington and the East Coast. Facilities include a zoo, golf course, children's play park, clock tower cafe, woodland walks and walled rose gardens. You could easily spend a whole day here.

North Yorkshire Moors (Heartbeat Country) Although a little further away (45 minute drive ) lies the North York Moors National Park home to the Hogwarts Steam Railway (Pickering to Whitby train line).

Pass through the pictuersque Village of Thornton-le -dale (home of Yesterdays Bangers and Cash TV Programme). It is well worth the journey to venture across the moors to Whitby. If you're lucky you may catch the goth weekend and catch a glimpse of Count Dracula before travelling down the coast road via Scarbough back to Hunmanby.
